Material
At Duplex Studio, waste becomes the foundation for innovation. The team sources discarded materials from Belgian partners – whether it's 4,000 linear meters of oak flooring offcuts from Arbony or unused blue stone from historic quarries like Carrières de Maffle. Each type of reclaimed material demands its own approach: understanding the structural properties of discarded wood, working with the natural variations in stone remnants, and adapting production techniques to honor the material's previous life while giving it new purpose.

Working Environment
Based in Brussels, Duplex Studio has built their entire operation around the circular economy principle. Everything happens under one roof – from the initial analysis of waste streams to the final delivery of finished pieces. The workshop reflects their commitment to local production and zero-waste principles. Rather than outsourcing different stages of production, they maintain complete control over their process, allowing them to adapt quickly to the unpredictable nature of working with industrial surplus while maintaining consistent quality.

Products
Duplex Studio's collections explore stories of quiet transformation - the WD 01 series offers discarded wooden flooring a second chapter, while their Stone 01 lamps carefully consider how quarry remnants might serve as thoughtful lighting elements. Projects like their adaptable TU 01 stools, which move gently between seating and side tables, reflect the studio's approach to creating considered pieces that respectfully extract value from each fragment of reclaimed material. The real work lies not only in the design itself, but in learning to collaborate with the inherent constraints and unexpected possibilities that waste materials offer.

Machine Setup
Duplex Studio operates five Mekanika Pro-L CNC milling machines as the backbone of their sustainable production workflow. These machines deliver the consistency and reliability essential for processing diverse reclaimed materials, eliminating production interruptions that could compromise their tight delivery schedules. Having integrated Mekanika machines into their operations for four years, the studio has developed specialized workflows that maximize efficiency across different material types. To handle the unique demands of blue stone processing, they have dedicated one machine exclusively to stone cutting, with modified tooling and parameters optimized for this challenging material.
