Manifesto

We want everybody to access the tools they need to change the world

We all have ideas. What stands between thoughts and realisation are knowledge and tools. Mekanika aims at making tools accessible, less expensive and highly adaptable, to support every creative person in their journey to materialize ideas.

We believe in open source objects

Thirty years ago, open source software seemed to be an odd idea. Today, new technologies open the gate for producing open source objects, initiating an era of collaboration and knowledge-sharing like never before. Mekanika gives access to all elements needed to empower those collaborations: a modular design canvas, a user-friendly way of presenting information and an open manufacturing network.

We are on a mission to bring sustainable design and local production to everyone, everywhere

Knowledge is the only thing that matters. We’ve mostly left it behind when it comes to understanding industrially produced objects: they are made on the other side of the world, eventually break or become unusable if any part is damaged. We are giving access to all the knowledge needed to use every tool we create, in a universal, understandable and easily manageable way.

Future is made of environmental-enhancing tools and objects

Every time an object dies, it affects the environment. Modularity makes each of our tools repairable and upgradable. Besides, by implementing a local production instead of counting on the economy of scale, we are able to reduce transport costs and emissions, while supporting local businesses.

We want to help makers and entrepreneurs

We want to educate every designer, maker or engineer to modular and sustainable design. We also want to support entrepreneurs who bring environmental innovation as business ideas, and who need tools to achieve their goals and replicate positive actions.

We progress in a community of openness

Mekanika is community-based and every new idea is welcome. We design tools and help our community appropriate them but we need you to support each other and share knowledge as well.
