Install the Mekanika Post-processor in Fusion 360

In order to create a G-code from Fusion 360 and make it compatible with Mekanika CNC machines, you need to to install a custom post-processor. This article will guide through the process, whether you use a Mac or a PC.

Please note that hidden files and folders must be enabled to work through the instructions to add a personal post-processor.

Windows OS

Open Fusion360 and open a CAM file to be able to enter the Post Process dialogue box. Note that you will see an "Invalid toolpath" error if you try to access it without any CAM file open.

Copy the post-processor to the C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Appdata\Roaming\Autodesk\Fusion 360 CAM\Posts folder.

You can find this post-processor on the USB key that you received with your CNC kit. The file is named PlanetCNC_MEKANIKA_USB_Controller.cps

After successfully copying the post-processor, it should now show under Personal Posts in the Post Process dialogue box of Fusion 360.

macOS

Open a Finder Window and navigate to the file path: Macintosh HD> Users> MAC USERNAME> Autodesk> Fusion 360 CAM> Posts

The file path above refers to the Autodesk.com installation of Fusion 360. If the Mac Apple Store version of Fusion 360 was used during the installation, the personal posts folder is located at the following file path: Macintosh HD>Users>MAC USERNAME>Library>Containers>com.autodesk.mas.fusion360>Data>Autodesk>Fusion 360 CAM>Posts

Note: MAC USERNAME refers to the individual Mac username accessed when logging into the macOS.

Copy the post-processor to the Posts folder that was just navigated to. It should now be available if the Source field in the Post Process dialogue box inside Fusion360.
